The RNBC’s History

The Resource Network Breakfast Club dates back to 1989 when a small group of like-minded business people believed in the benefits of networking to support and assist each other through tips and leads for the development of each other’s businesses.

To date the RNBC weekly meetings have been held at four different locations. These Friday morning breakfast meetings were held initially at the Lord Nelson Inn downtown for a number of years until the hotel closed for renovations. The group next moved to the Danish Canadian Club until once again the facility underwent renovations and we moved at the onset of the new millennium to the elegant surroundings of the 400 Club. The Resource Network met at this location until August 2002, when after 52 years of operation in Calgary, the 400 Club closed it doors. The club currently meets at the Coast Plaza Hotel in northeast Calgary.

The club has met its mandate of generating business tips and leads for its members through the years, but more significantly the club has always fostered an environment of good hearted fun at its meetings. This form of networking serves to also keep you aware of what’s happening in other areas of the business community apart from your own. Despite the early Friday morning meeting time, it is a meeting that members look forward to routinely attending.

Social activities have become another aspect of RNBC’s success. The club generally holds a Christmas party with Chinese gift exchange and an annual golf tournament. We have done a float trip down the Bow River, a camping weekend, St. Patrick’s Day and Stampede week celebrations, several Yuk-Yuks comedy club evenings out (one debuting one of our own as a stand up comic), not to mention numerous barbeques and house parties. A few of the members have even travelled to Malaysia and Mexico together.

The club has seen a number of individuals come and go over the years and in many instances people who have left have returned for the support and camaraderie our group provides. The variety of professions and business classifications represented have ranged from all kinds of sales professionals and small business owners, environmental and business consultants, construction trades people, travel agents, chiropractor, graphologist (handwriting analyst), oilman and author, personal injury lawyer, city aldermanic candidates to wildlife artist.
